Install Kallamo
Kallamo is free and open source (AGPLv3). The download page detects your system and links straight to the right file of the latest release. Every release is also listed on GitHub.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”For Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Download the .exe installer and run it once.
Kallamo checks for updates in the background. When a new version has downloaded, a notice inside the app offers to restart and install it.
For Apple Silicon Macs. Open the .dmg and drag Kallamo into Applications.
Two files are published:
- AppImage: universal. Make it executable (
chmod +x) and run it. It updates itself. - .deb: for Debian and Ubuntu. It does not update itself; install the new
.debwhen a release comes out.
After installing
Section titled “After installing”- Connect a model. Kallamo does not come with one.
- Press Begin on Evenwell to play the roleplay that ships with the app, or open the Lighthouse example to see the Writing Desk.
Your data
Section titled “Your data”Everything you write and everything Kallamo records lives in a database on your computer. The only thing that leaves it is the request sent to the model you connect. Before an update changes the database, Kallamo keeps a safety copy. See Data, backups and privacy.
Build from source
Section titled “Build from source”Kallamo is an Electron app. The README on GitHub explains how to install the dependencies, run it in development and build an installer.
