Resources, progression, skills
Rules live in Worldbuild › Rules and belong to the world: they travel with it when you export it. In play, the AI reports every change as an amount with a reason. In the workspace, Configuration › Roleplay sums them up with a shortcut to open them.
Each rule has How AI changes are applied, the same choice as the Narrative State: manual, review everything, or automatic.
Resources
Section titled “Resources”Numbers the AI keeps for characters and creatures, such as Health or Mana. Each character’s current values live on their sheet.
- A resource belongs to the characters, races or species you choose.
- Races and characters: races and species can have their own base or growth, and single characters an adjustment.
- Tell the AI what moves it: what drains it, what restores it, how it recovers with story time.
Progression
Section titled “Progression”How characters grow over a campaign. Progression style is either no growth (only resources change) or levels and attributes.
| Part | Options |
|---|---|
| Who progresses | All specific beings, or only who you choose. The player character always progresses. |
| Experience | XP for level 2, how the goal grows, how much it grows, and the highest level. The AI only adds XP keeps it from taking any away. |
| Attributes | The AI raises them when the story earns it, and optionally can also lower them. |
| On each new level | What a character gains when they level up. |
Skills
Section titled “Skills”What characters are good at, each at a rank. Separate from levels: a world with no XP can still use them. Turn on Use skills in this world first.
| Part | Options |
|---|---|
| Ranks | Your own rank names, in order. Evenwell uses Novice, Apprentice, Competent and Master. |
| The list | Skills with sub-skills folded under their parent. Search, edit or delete them. |
| Who learns | Everyone, or only who you choose. The player character always learns. |
| How the AI changes skills | The AI gives skills from this list, raises ranks, can also lower ranks, and can propose new skills. |
Time costs
Section titled “Time costs”How far the clock moves for each kind of action when the story does not say. See Story time and the calendar.
Importing rules
Section titled “Importing rules”When a world package brings rules that differ from yours, you choose to keep yours, switch to the package’s, or keep yours and add what was missing. The package can also carry each character’s current values.
