World Index and the Tagger
Search by meaning is good at topics and weak at names. “Mara’s grandfather” and “Aldous Finn” are the same person to you; to an embedding they are just words. The World Index fixes that by tagging every searchable passage with the Worldbuild entities it mentions.
How passages get tagged
Section titled “How passages get tagged”- By name, on the spot. When a passage is indexed, every Worldbuild name written in it is tagged, including Other names: nicknames, titles, aliases.
- By the Tagger. The Tagger AI role reads what names alone could not settle and marks the entities each passage is about. It never decides what is canon.
What tags change
Section titled “What tags change”- A search that names an entity favours the passages tagged with it, and more so when that name is rare in the workspace.
- A passage that carries a rare entity your message names is kept even when its wording is far from your question.
- Retrieval can hop from an entity to the passages about it, and to related entities. Worldbuild breadth in Settings › Retrieval sets how far.
Running it
Section titled “Running it”In Memory, World Index tags the workspace’s searchable chunks. It reads text that is already searchable and never changes it. New archives and new files are tagged as they are indexed.
Unknown names
Section titled “Unknown names”With Propose unknown entities on (Settings › AI roles › Tagger), names the Tagger cannot match to a sheet become suggestions in Worldbuild’s Waiting for review. Accept the ones that belong in your canon.
Getting the most out of it
Section titled “Getting the most out of it”- Give entities the other names the story actually uses.
- In the Writing Desk, Link to world ties an ambiguous name to the right sheet.
- Avoid duplicate sheets for one person: two “Aldous” sheets split the evidence between them.
