The scene

The scene is the here and now of a roleplay. The narrator writes from it, the Narrative State updates it after every reply, and you can edit any of it by hand.

Open Configuration at the right of the workspace tabs and turn on Roleplay: play inside the story while the AI keeps track of the scene, the clock, resources such as Health, and what each character knows. Turning it off keeps every scene, value and history entry for later.

Once on, the Roleplay section shows at a glance who you are playing as, the location, and whether the Narrative State is up to date or has changes to review.

Field What it holds
Player character Who you play. They always progress and learn, whatever the rules say about everyone else.
Location Where the scene is: a Worldbuild location of any size.
Taking part The characters in the scene.
Nearby Characters close enough to matter, but not in the scene.
Objects here Items present in the scene.
Scenario A name for what is going on, like “Siege at dawn”, and what is happening right now.

Characters and places come from Worldbuild. A character needs a sheet before they can take part, and new arrivals named in the story get one through the Narrative State.

After every reply, the Narrative State reads the turn and updates the scene: who arrived or left, where the story moved, what is on the table. A scene change applies whole or not at all, so the scene is never half updated.

You can always change it yourself. Your edit is the record from then on.

The narrator writes from the scene and from what the people in it can know. See Perspective and Knowledge.

Characters with a portrait show it beside them in roleplay, and places can carry a framed scene background. Both are set on the sheet in Worldbuild and travel inside exported worlds.
